Altmaier misses the semifinals in India
Altmaier has clearly missed the entry into the semifinals at the ATP tournament in Pune. The 23-year-old from Kempen had to give way on Friday in the quarter-finals to the Portuguese Joao Sousa with 2: 6, 3: 6 beaten. The game only lasted 72 minutes. Altmaier, who was nominated by team boss Michael Kohlmann for the first time for the Davis Cup team for the round-round game in Brazil (4th: March), could not build on his good performance from the previous games in India. Despite the defeat, the 23-year-old will surpass its so far best placement in the world ranking (84) in the coming week. At the Australian Open, Altmaier had failed in the first round at the German number one Alexander Zverev. At the end of the past season, the French Open’s Final Finalist of 2020 had reached two finals at Challenger Tournaments in Mexico and the USA.
