The Director of Narrative of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart points out that his work has not been accredited

The narrative director of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has stated that his work has been “erased” after a talk at the GDC of the Design Director of Insomniac Games, Mark Stuart.

Stuart talked about the development of the game and, specifically, of the creation of Rivet, from the playable elements to his personality and his name.

The Sam Maggs writer has responded to this talk in IGN, explaining that “it is frankly offensive” that she did not mention it in the talk of Stuart, taking into account the important role he had in the creation of Rivet.

Maggs, who left the studio before the launch of the game, affirms that her work was not accredited, and instead she included it in “Special Acknowledgments”.

“This talks about a bigger problem, that of developers being eliminated from the narrative of their own work when they leave a study, I have not even been credited as a writer of the game despite having dedicated a year and a half of my life to This and having created the personality of Rivet from scratch. “

In a twitter thread, Maggs details how the process of creating the name of Rivet was. For her, there were three conditions: that she had a tool or mechanism name, that the name had two syllables to evoke familiarity, and that ideally ended with a strong sound.

This caused MAGGS to create a list of names, which included possibilities such as Hammer, Socket and Gadget. In the end, the team opted for “Rivet”, a name that was, subsequently, attributed to the David Kim programmer.

“I just want to insist that none of this works without the team, […] that’s why being eliminated from the conversation it hurts so much. Because it is a teamwork, but at the end of the day, as a director of narrative, give it a name It was my job and my responsibility – I was brought to this project specifically to be the voice of the players who needed a rivet in their lives. “
