Wolfsburg separates from coach Kohfeldt: regret development very much

VfL Wolfsburg has completed the disappointing 2021/22 season as a twelfth table – far from its own requirements. Now after their season analysis, the wolves made the third coaching change in the Bundesliga perfect after the 34th matchday: Like Markus Weinzierl in Augsburg and Adi Hütter in Mönchengladbach, Florian Kohfeldt will no longer be in office from July. This was officially made by VfL on the early Sunday evening: the cooperation was “mutually agreed”, the Lower Saxony said.

“We continued and intensified and intensified the analysis of the season on Saturday evening and Sunday morning and ultimately had to ask ourselves how resilient a further cooperation would be,” said Managing Director Jörg Schmadtke in the club announcement. “We have come to the realization that we would be exposed to a pressure situation from the start that would mean a burden that would mean too big for the team, coach and club. Therefore, we have collected the cooperation in trusting and honest conversations. “

Labbadia is also traded as the successor

Possible candidates include Matthias Jaissle (RB Salzburg), Daniel Farke (most recently Krasnodar) and Sandro Schwarz (Dynamo Moscow), who is also under discussion at Hertha BSC. The name of Bruno Labbadia, which VfL has already supervised VfL from February 2018 to June 2019 and has been unified since its farewell from Berlin in January 2021.

Last October, Kohfeldt took over the post of Mark van Bommel, but there has not been a clear improvement since then. For a long time, fans and those responsible even had to worry about relegation. The 2-2 in the season finale against FC Bayern Munich, the fourth game without defeat in series, only reconciled to a limited extent.

Kohfeldt: “I’m glad that I leave the team in a stable state”

“I took over the team in a complex and difficult phase with the order to stabilize them. We had to struggle with many imponderables, especially in the second half of the season that made this task extremely difficult,” said Kohfeldt. “Nevertheless, we succeeded in reaching the saving bank three game days before the end of the season. I am glad that I leave the team in a stable state.”

After the draw against the record champion, midfield chief Maximilian Arnold had said about Kohfeldt: “He pulled the right conclusions and committed us to the important games.” That obviously is not enough for the club bosses. “We regret this development and thank Florian Kohfeldt that he helped us in a difficult situation and took the right measures to ensure relegation,” said Schmadtke. “We wish him all the best and are convinced that he will go his way as a coach.”

On October 26, 2021, Kohfeldt took the command in Lower Saxony, three competitive victories in a row gave hopes for a carefree season. But Wolfsburg was too feces afterwards. The game days 28 to 31: A 0: 3 in Augsburg followed a 4: 0 against Bielefeld, which in turn followed a 1: 6 in Dortmund and a 5: 0 against Mainz.
