Giro: Yates wins in Turin

CALCULATED VICTORY | SIMON YATES WINS 2022 GIRO D'ITALIA - STAGE 14
The British cyclist Simon Yates (BikeExchange-Jayco) won the eventful 14th stage of the Giro d’Italia. The 2018 Vuelta winner left a small top group at the last climb, which also included Olympic champion Richard Carapaz. The Ecuadorian from the Ineos Grenadier team reached the goal in Turin as third and slipped into the pink jersey of the overall leader.

As the best German, Emanuel Buchmann (Ravensburg) reached the goal of the demanding stage over 147 km with a start in Santena, on which the drivers had to cope with around 3,200 meters of altitude.

Buchmann improved to seventh place in the overall classification, 1:58 minutes separated from Carapaz. Buchmann’s Bora Hansgrohe team colleague Jai Hindley is even closer, the Australian became second in the day and is only seven seconds behind the new carrier of the Rosa jersey.

Bora drivers Lennard Kämna and Ben Zwiehoff also looked for their chance in attacks. However, the favorites team did little and kept the pace high – the most prominent victim was Juan Pedro Lopez, the Spaniard from the Team Trek -Segafredo had to be torn down early and lost the pink jersey after ten days.

The 105th Giro d’Italia had previously lost the next top driver. Tom Dumoulin (31) from the Jumbo-Visma team, who won the second largest state tour of the cyclist 2017, gave up during the stage. The Dutch had already fallen far in the overall classification in the first Giro week on Etna, on Saturday he got into trouble on the way to Turin and got out.
